well for starters the right side of the drawing is cut off because i miscounted my grid while doing the outline and i dont enjoy drrawing anime like i used to. i enjoy drawing detailed drawings now and anime lacks that challenge. and it looks like crap here cuz i only have my phone to take a picture of it with.

well, any drawing, anime or whatever can be as detailed as you want it to be... But I guess if you've confined yourself to copying something using a grid, then it really isn't up to you.

...and if you don't like doing something optional, I don't really see why you'd do it, then whine about it. I mean, for what it is, the picture is good.

thanks.... i added a lot more detail than my reference pic had.... and i did it because it was a paid commission that was paid ahead. using a grid doesnt mean copying especially my grids i use huge squares. its simply for getting the anatomy correct. i would use a grid even in my own origional characters.

AHH!!! Paid commissions are always good. I can understand ya now. The only time I ever had to do something on a grid was for some art project in 12th grade. My art teacher was forcing me to enter this stupid rodeo art contest so she brought me a picture of a cowboy sitting at a table in a tea shop and said YOU'RE GONNA DRAW THIIIISSS. O_o;;; and I had to blow it up on this gigantic poster board....

I on the other hand used teeny tiny eensy weensy squares.

oh alright and there was this one other time that I had tihs really really awesome picture and I wanted to copy it exactly exactly as a pencil drawing...mm...

come to think of it, both of those came out really incredible...

I may have to go check out some of them original characters you speak of.

i dont have any OC's finished yet. recreating photos is teaching me anatomy so that when i do my OC's i can do it better. i mostly use the grid to center my drawings on the page so i dont do what i did in this drawing but you have to count right lol.

well, I think if you're trying to learn anatomy you would be better served by actually learning anatomy and studying it in its self. I had a very very nice book on it called "Dynamic Anatomy", found here [link] (as low as $2.43!!). It was a really incredibly huge help for me, although it's been some time since I actually intensely studied it. But, if you've had a gander at my gallery, you would see that I don't particularly struggle with drawing the human figure anymore ;)
